How was GLMMRS started?
GLMMRS originated with a few guys who raced fifties with a pocketbike club. The club started out with pocketbikes and had grown to include a motard class for CRF50s. The club had grown so much that it has pushed the limits of capacity within our indoor facility, Kart 2 Kart. That is what prompted the beginning of GLMMRS.
What started out as three fifties has grown to over 80 and doesn't show any signs of getting smaller. Before GLMMRS, the mini-motards needed more than one class, along with an accurate set of rules/guidelines to make things fair and fun for everyone. Making modifications, yet keeping the classes "spec" (affordable), and how to differentiate each class were a few of the issues that needed to be addressed. We think we've done that.
GLMMRS is a series organized by racers, for racers. We wanted to outline an easy plan for newcomers to the sport to easily get involved; providing a low barrier of entry (cost) to get racing. Our goal has been to accurately identify rules, classes, and overall race guidelines that racers can agree on and abide by. Then bring in friends, sponsors, and everyone together to have a blast racing little fifties, without breaking the bank.
Why GLMMRS?
Those who have raced motorcycles in any form (roadracing, motorcross, dirt tracking, etc.) can attest that a similar level of excitement exists in mini-motard racing, for a fraction of the cost. Mini-motard racing isn't just for racers however - whether you come out and ride for fun, or treat this as your primary racing fix, it's a great environment for men and women to go out and have a blast on little bikes.
Many can attest that riding any motorcycle - big or small, can help increase a rider's overall ability on a motorcycle. Whether you want to drag a foot or drag a knee, we can almost guarantee that racing a fifty will help make you a better rider, or racer, on any other bike. Clean racing at a top-notch indoor facility makes for a great way to get your racing fix.
The main goal of all of this is fun. We're not racing for national championships. The purpose of GLMMRS is to provide a racing outlet for CRF50-based motorcycles on an indoor course for the duration of the winter months. Safe, competitive racing is our goal. We want a self-sufficient organization that gives the racers what they ask for, and a little more.
Why are you guys attempting to be so organized? I don't get it.
Among the three racing classes, there are modifications (discussed in the FAQs) that many riders have done, but there are two major things we're focused on in the series:
- Cost: A major issue in any form of racing. Here it is no different. While one can spend upwards of $2000-$7000 on extras for the CRF50, that isn't what we're after. Keeping the sport financially feasible is why it's growing as fast as it is. When people can afford to race and get into it quickly and easily, that's a good thing.
- Spec-Racing: Going hand in hand with cost, the goal of the spec-classes is to put 10-30 bikes out there that are all relatively similar in terms of modifications made to them. Unbalanced advantages lead to unfair races, complaints and ultimately, less fun. A spec class is very reasonable with the high level of interest in the class. Currently the 88-Extreme class is our "premiere" class for the reasons listed above.
